Who We Are

Soil Mechanics

WE PROVIDE SAFE, RELIABLE, COST-EFFECTIVE DRILLING SOLUTIONS.

Based in Perth, Soil Mechanics offers specialised services to mining infrastructure projects throughout Australia, civil and construction sectors and local governments.

We have worked in some of the most difficult and challenging ground conditions in the State and been involved in some of the largest geotechnical and environmental projects in the southern hemisphere. We pride ourselves on our can-do approach to quality core and sample recovery for our clients, and always work with environmental considerations in mind.

Soil Mechanics offers track-based and wheel-based drill rigs and equipment, 4×4 truck carriers and water trucks for difficult to access and remote drilling, along with camping operations. We also have a range of over-water drilling platforms using floating and/or jack-up platforms, with heli portable options available.

Our plant and equipment is regularly maintained and carries all relevant safety equipment and documentation to access any mine or construction industrial sites.

Drillers are trained and certified to minimum Cert III drilling operations and hold verification of competencies for all our drill rigs and equipment.

Our People

At Soil Mechanics, our proven track record in delivering and exceeding our client’s expectations is down to our drillers, working closely with hydrologists, geologists and engineers.

Our drillers and drill assistants, who are vital to our success, are highly trained and experienced, and hold current drilling certification, along with verification of competency. Our team has a wealth of knowledge of ground conditions throughout the State and Australia. Collectively, this gives us the ability to see the big picture and identify and address potential issues with innovative thinking, best practices, and common-sense solutions.

Managing director, Daniel Van Liefde, started his career as a driller’s assistant at just 16, and founded Soil Mechanics in 2014, investing in the company’s first drill rig. He and operations manager Shaun Warburton each have more than two decades of experience in marine and land-based geotechnical drilling.

Our reputation as leaders in marine and land based geotechnical drilling, coupled with quality sampling and our solid safety culture makes us one of the most experienced and efficient teams in Western Australia.
