Soil Mechanics Road to Better Quality Management and Occupational Health and Safety Systems with ISO Certifications

December was a rewarding month for Soil Mechanics as they successfully passed the audit and got the approval for the two ISO Certifications – ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems and ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Systems.

As a rapidly growing drilling company, Soil Mechanics found the need to fine tune their processes and systems so they can work more efficiently with the various Geotechnical and Environmental Drilling services they provide.

They identified that it is vital to have a better Quality Management, and Health, Safety and Environment Management plan in place. Furthermore, they wanted to address what their weaknesses are. That is why they decided to go big and align their organisation to an ISO System.

ISO or International Organization for Standardization is an independent, non-governmental organisation that develops standards to ensure the quality, safety and efficiency of products, services and systems.

The ISO 9001:2015 is an effective support tool promoting improvements on administrative processes, while the ISO 9001:2015 enables organisations to provide safe and healthy workplaces by preventing work-related injury and illness.

Daniel Van Liefde, Managing Director of Soil Mechanics, is completely hands-on in the whole process. With his very supportive team working diligently behind the scenes, and the suppliers and contractors who are very helpful in providing insurances and information on their systems, they accomplished all the required documentation and successfully surpassed the grueling audit.

For Daniel, getting the approval is just a small reward for a much bigger picture. It provides better advantages for clients and for the whole Soil Mechanics in the long run.

How can the ISO Certifications help our clients:

  • Improved contractor management
  • Improved customer feedback and lessons learned
  • Ability to work with bigger companies
  • Supplier risk analysis/using approved suppliers
  • Training needs

How can the ISO Certifications help the team & the company:

  • Exposure to larger projects and new clients
  • Better identify hazards in the workplace and apply controls to eliminate, substitute and/or engineer new ways to conduct our work.
  • Create a new and improved platform to work from.

Moving forward with ISO, Daniel foresees improvements in how they will quote, manage and conduct their onsite operations. Furthermore, they will be able to identify their weaknesses and strengths, value their feedback and look for more ways to improve.

With the ISO Certification in place and a new office premises at 15 Panama St, Canning Vale WA 6155, it’s a great year to start for bigger, and much better opportunities for Soil Mechanics.
